Congratulations to Lauren Mullin , October Athlete of The Month! Let’s get to know Lauren a little better with some questions below.

When and how did you get started with us?  I started just over a year ago.  I was always one of those people who hated exercise.  It was only when I was 41 that I started to run.  After a few years of running, I thought it’d be good to change it up a little.  I knew a few people over the years who were into Crossfit and they always looked so fit, so I thought I’d give it a try.

What is your biggest accomplishment since joining CFS?  The fact that I have been able to stick to a 4-day-a-week fitness schedule is pretty amazing.  Everyone who knows me is shocked.  I even do drop-ins at other boxes when I’m out of the area so I can maintain my schedule!  This goes to show how much I enjoy it.

What is your favorite CrossFit movement? I tend to like the metcon activities since they’re more in my comfort zone.

What is your advice to new folks? Don’t be intimidated!  For the first few months, I felt very uncomfortable and self-conscious doing pretty much everything.  Even though I still feel that way sometimes – and I still scale nearly everything – the coaches and other members are so supportive and encouraging, that those ‘off’ days are few and far between now.

If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning a medal for?  Finishing other people’s sentences.  Some may say it’s an annoying habit, but I happen to think it’s endearing.

What is the luckiest thing that has ever happened to you?  Meeting Mark.  Okay, that’s cheesy.  I’d probably say, having the opportunity to sit next to Tom Brady last year at a Kraft fundraising event at Gillette.  Out of about 800 people, I was the lucky one to sit next to him for 2.5 hours.  I was a nervous wreck, but he was awesome!  Mark was there, too…I’m not sure which one of us had a bigger crush on him!

What are your top two favorite movies of all time? Good Will Hunting and Chicago

What’s the farthest you’ve ever been from home? Maui, several times to visit my brother and his family who live there.

What is your favorite holiday and why?  I know the obvious ones are Thanksgiving and Christmas, but I’m going to go with the 4th of July.  The weather’s great, it’s so patriotic and we always make an event out of it.

If you were in a karaoke contest to win a million dollars what song would you sing?  Nothing.  As soon as I started to sing, I would be stoned to death.  Trust me on this.

What is something most people would not know about you?  I’m deathly afraid of needles.  The mere mention of needles or veins makes me queasy!

Lauren thanks for sharing!
