What is CrossFit?

CrossFit was created by Greg Glassman in Santa Cruz, CA in the late 90′s.  His goal was to create an incredibly effective Strength and Conditioning Program.  He achieved this by developing a training regimen that contains three essential elements:  Functional MovementsConstantly Varied, and performed with High Intensity.  There are over 20,000 people a day who CrossFit now. This quest has developed into a fitness movement that is spreading rapidly around the world.

Our program is designed to be broad and inclusive in training methods.  Our specialty is not specializing. We use three modalities, Olympic Lifts/strength training, Gymnastics/body weight, and intense Metabolic Conditioning/ cardio.  Each day we post a “WOD” (Workout of the Day).  The programming may be varied but it is not haphazardly random.  The larger cycle of programming has a purpose to maximize your metabolism while creating active muscle.  You’ll be expected to keep track of your workouts, either online, or in a notebook that we offer you when you sign up for any membership package.  Our workouts are completed for time, reps, or max weight, so you’ll be able to track your progress and  you’ll be amazed how much faster and stronger you’ll get.  We strongly encourage nutrition awareness and education.  This approach has helped us recover from our once debilitating injuries and prepared us to be competitive athletes in several arenas such as baseball, rock climbing and fitness.  Our clients will come from combat, running, lifetime sports to everyday life which all reward the CrossFit training methodology.

The movie 300 prepared their Spartans via CrossFit and it has become the strength and conditioning program and the standard assessment tool for the Marines, police academies, tactical operations units, champion martial artists and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide, and alternatively in nursing homes.  Additionally, it has mainstreamed into elementary through high schools in preparing athletes and battling the obesity epidemic, see www.crossfitkids.com.  Endurance athletes can train smarter.   Are you already a marathon runner, triathlete, cyclist or swimmer?  CrossFit training can get you great results fast. The combination of interval training and weight lifting will make you stronger and faster.  You’ll be amazed how much easier running, or biking, or swimming seems after a few weeks of training with CrossFit Synergistics.

Conclusively, The CrossFit program is designed for everyone mentioned above and everyone in between.  CrossFit’s universal scalability of load and intensity makes it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We use the same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and elite athletes.  The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree not kind. Our skiers, mountain bike riders and housewives have found their best fitness from the same regimen.

The fitness industry and Globo Gyms have brainwashed the masses to believe that meandering around the gym using isolating resistance machines coupled with lengthy cardio sessions on a single dimensional bike, or the back row of a class will spark great fitness.  And like you, for years as trainers, we fell for this.  Now at CrossFit Synergistics we prescribe Functional MovementsConstantly Varied, and performed with High Intensity.  We’ve replaced the strength machine with SYNERGISTIC movements that are core to extremity, such as hang power cleans and Kettlebell Turkish Get Ups. we’ve replaced the knee injury causing leg extension with SYNERGISTIC thrusters because this prescription for exercise is by far superior as proven in the high school, collegiate and professional sports arena.  Our objective is to shift the perception of what fitness is and how to achieve it with less time, guided by our coaching intensity, combined with your attitude and fortitude!

Below are the ten health and skill related components of fitness that we use to train you in reaching your goals.  CrossFit proposes that you are only as fit as your weakest component.  We program our workouts to improve all of them.  CrossFit Synergistics expects you to give 100% and challenge yourself with new movements each time you enter a workout.  It is the hardest work you will ever do, it will be the most rewarding you will ever accomplish and get you more fit than you have ever been because you will have the best coaches you’ve ever had.  The transfer will make you better in every endeavor you have outside the “box”.  You will not understand this level of tenacity and perseverance until you have put your ego aside and set a personal record, then crawled to receive a high five or a hug from the supportive community you have joined.
