Congratulations to Cari Perchase , February Athlete of The Month! Let’s get to know Cari a little better with some questions below.

When and how did you get started with us?
Last year, I experienced a number of personal and professional challenges that resulted in me feeling stress, tired, and unmotivated.  I knew that I needed to do something different and needed some accountability.  I knew a little bit about CrossFit from my brother-in-law and decided to sign up for foundations.  This month marks my one year anniversary at CrossFit Synergistics!

What is your biggest accomplishment since joining CFS?

Every WOD I finish is an accomplishment!  I am pretty proud of the progress that I have made with my squats.  Until recently, I carried a box/plates with my whenever we did wall-balls or other movements that required a squat.  Now, I am almost at parallel (not bad considering I had a hip replacement almost 2 years ago).

What is your favorite CrossFit movement?
Dead lifts.

What is your advice to new folks?
I remember sometimes feeling intimidated when I first started.  I was in awe of the strength, flexibility, and endurance of all the athletes and would feel embarrassed when I needed to scale or when I was the last one done.  My advice to people who are new to CrossFit would be to trust the process, the coaches, and the community.  I would also encourage new folks to ask questions and be open to and implement feedback.  I have learned so much, from so many and am stronger, mentally and physically, because others believed in me more than I believed in my self.

What is the luckiest thing that has ever happened to you?
I don’t know yet!

What are your top two favorite movies of all time? Tough one…..
The Breakfast Club and The Silence of the Lambs

What’s the farthest you’ve ever been from home?

I am so NOT a traveler!  I have never left the east coast of the United States and the furthest I have been from home is Key West.

If you could be any type of animal what would you be and why?

A dog!  Playful, loving, and sleeps like it’s their job!

What was your favorite TV show as a kid?
So many to choose from.  I am going to choose one from my 20s (which base on my current age was part of my childhood)….The West Wing.  Thanks to Netflix, i continue to enjoy my favorite show today!

What is something most people would not know about you?

I am going to regret this…. when I  was a senior in high school, I had a part-time job at The Ground Round.  I was Bingo the Clown and entertained kids at birthday parties and during the Penny a Pound promotions.  The hours were great and it paid 2-3 times what minimum wage was!

Thanks for sharing!
