Congratulations to Meghan Collette , January Athlete of The Month! Let’s get to know Meghan a little better with some questions below!
When and how did you get started with us?
About 6 months ago, I saw a friend at a BBQ who I had not seen in awhile and she looked amazing. I asked her what she had been doing and she said that she had started CrossFit. She coincidentally was doing a presentation at Crossfit Synergistics that week and was telling us how great it was there. My husband, JP, wanted to sign up right away. It took some convincing for me to join but I am glad that i did!
What is your biggest accomplishment since joining CFS?
I think that my biggest accomplishment has been seeing how my kids have reacted…I recently came home to find my daughter and her friend crafting their own WOD like workouts (whiteboards and all)! My four year old son was also able to demonstrate burpees in his karate class recently. I figure if I can set a good example for my kids, then everyone wins!
What is your favorite CrossFit movement?
Anything with the barbell! I had never done any sort of lifting before joining CrossFit and I have loved learning the moves and challenging myself to lift more.
What is your advice to new folks?
It may be intimidating to start but everyone there is very nice and encouraging. Don’t try to compare yourself to others in the class, stay focused on what works best for you and try to improve over time.
What is your greatest fear?
That one day The Real Housewives will get cancelled.
What is something you have always wanted to do but haven’t gotten around to yet?
I have traveled a lot but haven’t yet made it to Asia…I would love to see that part of the world some day…
What is your favorite holiday and why?
By far, New Years day…we spend the day in our pajamas, eating junk food, and watching movies…started when my husband and I were younger and overindulged the night before..has become a fun family tradition with the kids…no CrossFit that day, but back at it the next day!
What was your favorite TV show as a kid?
Gilmore Girls
If you were stranded on a desert Island for one year and you could have these 6 things who and what would you pick:
1. Any celebrity to keep you company and why? Andy Cohen – he would keep me entertained
2. What type of beverage – Wine – a year is a long time without it
3. What type of food – Cheese and crackers – pairs well with wine
4. Tent or tree house? – Tree House – more fun
5. Matches or knife? – Matches so I could stay warm, I am always cold
6. Sleeping bag or hammock – Hammock – more relaxing
Thanks for sharing Meghan!
Congratulations Meghan!!!
Congratulations and welcome!!
Congratulations Meghan, welcome to CFS, and also welcome to the Athlete of the Month (AOM) family. Come visit the 7:30 p.m. WOD sometime. As a former AOM I’d like to encourage those who have been working hard but have not yet received recognition as AOM … people like Ken Earley, Tim Heavey and Colin O’Hearn …. to continue to strive because your day will come if you keep up the effort. As Abraham Lincoln, himself a tall and successful lawyer like Ken Earley once said, “I will prepare myself and my chance will come.”
Congrats!!
