Congratulations to Lori Schroth, September Athlete of The Month! Let’s get to know Lori a little better with some questions below.

When and how did you get started with us?
Sept 2012 – 5 years ago! My sister was coaching at CFS at the time and convinced me to give it a try. It is the only exercise program I’ve ever stuck with, and it has been life-changing for me.

What is your biggest accomplishment since joining CFS?
There have been so many! The biggest has probably been CrossFitting through two pregnancies. Early on, climbing the 12′ rope was a big deal for me. I was one of those kids in elementary school who could never do it. Most recently, dropping the post-partum weight and getting toes-to-bar.

What is your favorite CrossFit movement?
I like the Olympic lifts, and the snatch is probably my favorite.

What is your advice to new folks?
Keep showing up! Be patient with the difficult movements and commit to getting the basics right. Scale, scale, scale  — not only for your safety, but so that you can find the right intensity for the WOD. Lean on the coaches when you are unsure– they will nudge you in the right direction.

If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning a medal for?
Hmmm… this is a hard one. Baking a carrot cake? Playing cribbage? Reading? Actually, I’m going to go with leisure. I’m pretty good at leisure time.

What is the luckiest thing that has happened to you?
Oh, gosh. I want to say something totally cliche like meeting Justin and convincing him to marry me.

What are your top two favorite movies of all time?
I get to pick two!? Breakfast Club and Shawshank Redemption.

What’s the farthest you’ve ever been from home?
Valparaiso, Chile for an urban downhill mountain bike race. One of the craziest athletic events I have ever witnessed.

What is your favorite holiday and why?
Middle of May. I get to celebrate Mother’s Day, my birthday and our anniversary all within a week. We usually do a quick and fun weekend away or go to a Sox game, and it finally feels like the end of winter in New England.

If you were in a karaoke contest to win a million dollars what song would you sing?
Beastie Boys – Paul Revere. I would never, in a million years, win at karaoke.

What is something most people would not know about you?
I love to garden, and I grow vegetables every year. I’ve scaled way back the past couple of years (weeding while pregnant is really uncomfortable!), but I would love to have more time to tend a giant vegetable garden.

Thanks for sharing Lori!
